Saintly vs Creedo: which Catholic learning app should you use?
Creedo and Saintly are both lesson apps that teach the Catholic faith with quizzes and streaks. Creedo is closer to a game, with more than 3,000 short lessons, puzzles and parish study groups. Saintly is closer to a daily magazine, with illustrated courses, a saint of the day, prayer audio and an AI companion that answers with sources. Choose by the style that keeps you coming back.
Creedo and Saintly are the two Catholic apps that most resemble a language-learning app: short lessons, quizzes at the end, streaks for showing up. If you are looking for "Duolingo for Catholics", these are the two to compare.
Saintly publishes this comparison, and Saintly is one of the apps in it. We have described Creedo as fairly as its own makers would, linked to their own pages for prices and features, and said plainly where Creedo is the better choice. Prices are US prices checked on October 20, 2026. They vary by country and change, so check the store before you subscribe.
What is the difference between Saintly and Creedo?
The difference is style more than subject. Creedo is built like a game, with a very large number of short lessons, puzzles, XP and a community of parishes and study groups. Saintly is built like a daily magazine, with fewer but longer illustrated lessons and a home screen that follows the whole day.
Both teach the same faith from the same sources. Both draw on the Catechism and Scripture, both end lessons with quizzes, and both use streaks to help you return tomorrow. Someone who likes one will probably like the other. The question is which rhythm suits you.
There is a real reason to want either. The Church asks Catholics to be able to give a reason for their hope (1 Peter 3:15), and the Catechism calls catechesis an education in the faith that is "organic and systematic" (CCC 5). Lesson apps are good at both, because they build knowledge in order and check it.
What does Creedo do best?
Creedo does volume, game mechanics and community best. Its App Store listing advertises more than 3,000 guided lessons on Scripture, the Catechism and spiritual classics, each ending in a quiz, plus daily Catholic puzzles, XP, streaks and a progress profile.
Its community features are its most distinctive part. You can find your parish in the app, join study groups, follow friends and see your parish's collective progress. If you want to learn alongside people you know, that is a strong reason to choose Creedo.
Creedo also has a prayer library of more than a hundred guided prayers, including the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Stations of the Cross, home screen widgets and audio for listening to lessons. It has no ads, and the base app is free.
Its limits are mostly matters of taste. Short, frequent lessons are motivating, but some learners prefer fewer lessons that explain more. The app is in English only. And like every young app, it is changing quickly, so check the current listing.
What does Saintly do best?
Saintly does explanation and the daily rhythm best. Its sixteen courses run from the foundations through the Mass, prayer, the saints, the Bible and the seven sacraments. Each lesson takes about five minutes, explains the why behind a teaching with its sources, and then checks it with a quiz.
A Saintly lesson is built like a short illustrated magazine article: an image, a passage from Scripture or the Catechism, a pull-quote, a moment to reflect, then the questions. Lessons can be read aloud. A practice quiz brings back what you got wrong before, which is how knowledge actually stays.
The home screen accompanies the day: the saint of the day as a two-minute illustrated story, the Mass readings, a daily quote and an evening examen. An AI companion answers questions the lessons do not cover and shows its sources. Saintly is available in English and German.
What Saintly does not have is Creedo's scale or its parish community. It has far fewer lessons, no puzzles and no parish-wide progress. Its social features are limited to following friends and inviting them.
How do Saintly and Creedo compare feature by feature?
Creedo is broader and more social, Saintly is more editorial and covers more of the day. Both run on iPhone and Android, both have a free tier, and both use quizzes and streaks. The table shows where each one is stronger.

Both apps are free to download with a paid tier. Creedo Lux costs $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year with a seven-day free trial, according to its App Store listing. Saintly Plus costs $40 a year in the US, also with a seven-day free trial.
Creedo's free tier includes its core lessons. Lux adds advanced theology courses, the full puzzle archive and profile extras. Saintly's free tier includes seven of sixteen courses, the daily saint, the day's Mass readings, the evening examen, the Rosary, guided prayer audio, a Bible reader and three questions a day to the AI companion.
Saintly Plus adds the remaining nine courses, unlimited Bible and Discover cards, Sleep Scriptures, widgets and up to a hundred questions a day to the AI companion. Neither app requires payment to learn the basics of the faith.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Creedo if points, puzzles and learning with your parish motivate you. Choose Saintly if you prefer fewer lessons that explain more, and want one app that follows your day from the morning reading to the evening examen. Both are good choices; the better one is the one you keep opening.
A few situations make it clearer:
- Your parish or study group already uses Creedo. Join them. Learning together is worth more than any feature difference.
- You want to understand why the Church teaches something. Saintly's lessons put more weight on explanation and sources, and the AI companion helps you follow up.
- You read or pray in German. Saintly is available in German; Creedo is English only.
- You want prayer and learning in one app. Both include prayer, but Saintly's daily saint, readings and evening examen make it more of a daily companion.
What if neither app is right for you?
If you want prayer more than lessons, Hallow is the strongest choice; read our comparison of Saintly and Hallow. If you want the full Bible or Catechism in a year, Ascension is built for it; see Saintly vs Ascension.

Whichever app you choose, give it three weeks. Most learning apps feel best on day one and hardest around day ten. The habit that survives that dip is the one that teaches you.
